For those who know what shamanism is and what a practitioner or shaman does, then you’ve probably heard of a Power Animal (PA). You might not know what a PA is, so I’m here to clear up any confusion and explain why everyone should have one.

Centuries ago shamanic cultures spanned the globe on almost every continent and it’s still very much alive in the world today. PA’s are considered highly skilled experts and irreplaceable allies, that necessitate a variety of roles and tasks in shamanic healing. One of those tasks is to protect, strengthen and help heal and serve the person that the PA belongs to.

From a shamanic perspective, having a PA is like having a spiritual BFF and most shamans and practioners have more than one. It goes without saying that if you’re using shamanism in your life to heal, strengthen and grow, then you absolutely need to build your spiritual team which includes PA’s.

Whichever animal your PA represents, it acts as a starting point for you to connect with it after the retrieval. Having a PA’(s) is like having your own private cheer squad that constantly has your back no matter what you do, through thick and thin. And when you’re battling the voice of your alter-ego, which encourages you to take wildly dangerous uncalculated risks, just call in your PA’s for extra support.

Now that you have a PA, what do you do with it? Let’s say you have an upcoming interview or presentation and you’re nervous as hell. You’ve tried all your normal tactics to relieve your nerves, but nothing works. And you also you stayed up way too late the night before and aren’t feeling 100 percent. With a PA, you can eliminate the nervousness, wake yourself up and feel more motivated by merging with it. That’s just one example.

Another of the astonishing things about shamanism is that it works at lightening speed, making it very powerful. Why? Simply put, the self-revelatory process which happens when you take a shamanic journey. It allows for solutions to problems and issues about a person, place or situation to easily emerge within the journey itself. Then the root of the issue is exposed making the problem easier to solve.

Many that are new to shamanism sometimes have problems wrapping their head around the idea of unseen animals supporting and helping them. Some people don’t even like animals. But that’s missing the point. In shamanism its not about what species your PA is; it represents a compassionate spiritual form that takes on an animal for you and you only to connect with, during the shamanic journey. You’re not getting a real bear delivered to your doorstep when you have a Power Animal retrieval. But what you are getting, is a true ally that survives only when it protects, serves and mentors you. That’s why everyone should have one.
